Present Your Research at a Conference
Academic conferences present students with an important opportunity to share research with other undergraduates and faculty members. Conference presentations are an important part of professionalization, and they offer undergraduates the chance to receive valuable feedback on their work. Students explain their methodology and respond to questions about their findings, which leads them to deepen their understanding of their research. See what other students peers are researching, network, and gain valuable experience to highlight on a resume or graduate school application!
Undergraduate Research Day
Held each year on the Wednesday before Maryland Day, Undergraduate Research Day offers all undergraduates an opportunity to present their research to their peers and professors. A call for proposals is issued in March, and students submit abstracts summarizing their research projects. Participation is free, and nearly 500 students present their work annually.
ACC Meeting of the Minds
This annual conference draws presenters from the twelve universities and colleges that comprise the Atlantic Coast Conference. Created to highlight the academic excellence that characterizes each ACC institution, the ACC Meeting of the Minds features oral presentations in all academic disciplines as well as artistic performances and exhibitions. In 2008, the Meeting of the Minds will be hosted by Florida State University, from April 18-19. Proposals are solicted each winter and evaluated by faculty reviewers. The Maryland Center for Undergraduate Research is pleased to fully fund all ACC Meeting of the Minds presenters, including registration fees and all travel expenses.
National Conference on Undergraduate Research
Perhaps the longest-running national conference to address undergraduate research, NCUR features presentations, scholarship and performances in the sciences, humanities, social sciences and arts. This three-day conference will be held from April 12-14 at Dominican University in San Rafael, California. The conference features poster and oral presentations by more than a thousand students. Presenters also may submit their findings for publication in each year's Conference Proceedings. A university-wide call for proposals is issued each winter, and proposals are evaluated by faculty members. The Maryland Center for Undergraduate Research is pleased to pay registration fees for student presenters at NCUR.
CUSF USM Undergraduate Research Days in Annapolis
On January 24th, 2007, the Council of System Faculty and the University System of Maryland will sponsor an annual symposium of undergraduate research at the State House in Annapolis. Top students from each of the universities that comprise the University System of Maryland will attend and present their posters to their delegates and representatives in the State government.
Students interested in presenting their research at this event should complete a 2007 CUSF USM Undergraduate Research Day Proposal form. The deadline for submitting a proposal is December 15th, and students should submit their completed forms to the Office of Undergraduate Studies in 2130 Mitchell Building. Proposals will be evaluated by faculty reviewers and approved by the Provost. This year, only two student researchers (or research groups) will be invited to attend the symposium.
Students will be alterted to each of these opportunities as calls for proposals are issued.
